Brasilia Day 3&4

Day 3 - Tuesday
Today started with breakfast then a visit at the the U.S. Embassy in Brasilia. We were greeted by the Education and Culutral Specialist who walked us through the embassy. We were then briefed by various members from the embassy on the work and mission of the embassy and diplomatic relations with Brazil.

After the embassy visit we visited the offices of CONSED, the National Council of State Secretaries of Education where we learned about educational leadership and policy making in Brazil. We then enjoyed a lakeside dinner in Pontao Lago Sul.

Day 4 - Wednesday

Today we visited two private schools in Brasilia to better understand the Brazilian education system in practicality. The first school we visited was a high school/college that focused on broad range technical and carrer preparation studies. The school we visited was part of a large system of schools collectively called, Instituto Federal de Brasil (IFB). We learned about programming and its mission to prepare students practically for the technical working world. The second school we visited was a K-12 school where we toured the school campus, visited classes, spoke to students, teachers, and administration, and learned about the everyday school life in Brazil. We were treated to a nice lunch at the school.

In the afternoon were were met by a representative from the Brazilian Ministry of Education to learn about professional and technology education systems in Brazil and how the ministry is establishing programs to positively shape Brazil's workforce, economy and future.

  1. How many students? The school looks pretty big. Were they in uniforms, or were the girls dressed all hoochie mama like?
